Breakfast? How to start Christmas day right

Posted on Nov 19, 2020

Starting the day right on the big day is just as vital as any other day, if not more so. Even with the turkey roasting away in the oven, Breakfast is still the most important meal of the day. So take your pick from the ideas below and begin Christmas morning with the perfect brekkie for you.

Boozy Breakfast

An indulgent way to start the day, spice up your normal bowl of porridge with a dash of rum. Make your favourite porridge as normal, we like using oat milk for extra flavour but any milk works well. When your porridge is ready add a dash of rum and warm through. We then like to top our bowl with blueberries, bananas and a sprinkle of brown sugar. This yummy breakfast bowl will warm up on Christmas morning ready for all the festivities.

Healthy start

We all know that Christmas is a guilt-free day filled with naughty treats and overindulging. If you sometimes feel a little bit groggy from all the snacking, try starting the day with a healthy alternative to all the goodies. These winter berry smoothie bowls are a perfect way to get in some goodness before all the overeating! You can add in all your favourite seeds, fruits and nuts so this healthy start to the day still feels like a yummy treat!

Fill up for the day

We have it on good authority that this is how Santa Claus himself starts the day! This is a start as you mean to go on breakfast, fill your belly ready for a day of overindulging and festive activities. If you don’t need a lay down after consuming a hearty full English breakfast then you are not doing it right!

Protein power

If you’re running the show on Christmas day you need to prepare with a protein-packed breakfast. Things like Scrambled eggs, spinach, mushrooms and fish are perfect for getting the fuel you need to man the helm on Christmas morning. If you haven’t got time for the whole shebang, eggs on toast will do the job just fine.

Treat yourself

If you can’t treat yourself on Christmas day, then when can you? We love these naturally coloured homemade pancakes, they are super easy to make and so much fun! The best part is you can stack them exactly how you like. If you have a sweet tooth a stack of warm pancakes covered in cream or chocolate sauce is definitely the best way to start the festivities. Cinnamon and Christmas spices also work well. Pancakes can be a great way to add some healthy fruit to breakfast for you and the little ones. Try making your own festive design for a Christmas morning activity.

On the go

Overnight oats are a great solution for those busy Christmas bees. If all of your time is normally taken up helping Santa and making sure the turkey is cooked to perfection on Christmas day, you might not have a great deal of time to think about other meals. Some overnight oats are a great way to make sure you still get a healthy hearty breakfast, that will fill you up ready to get all your jobs done. We love this chia seed, peanut and blueberry recipe but the beauty of overnight oats is that you can add all of your favourites and it’s ready straight out of the fridge in the morning!
